Synopsis: Review building owners HVAC strategies to minimize COVID-19 spread within buildings.

PRESENTATION:
Operation Strategies for Building Owners and Operators
during the COVID-19 Pandemic

With the threat of airborne viruses a new worry for everyone, the presentations will look at some of the options that building owners have to lower the risk of viruses spreading within buildings. We will review options within new and existing HVAC systems and how we can filter or kill pathogens in the airstream. We will discuss various types of filtration, temperature, humidity, bi-polar ionization, and also UV lighting.

SPEAKERS:

Keith Pehl
President and Founder of Optima Engineering

Based in North Carolina with offices in Charlotte and Raleigh, Optima has provided high-quality M/E/P engineering and sustainable design consulting services to architects and design professionals throughout the Southeast for over two decades. With over 30 years of experience as an electrical engineer, and registrations in over 30 states, Keith is a strong advocate for sustainable and Net Zero design in communities nationally. He frequently speaks to various organizations on the topics of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and Net Zero energy facilities. He is the former State Advocacy Chair for USGBC North Carolina and the current President of the Piedmont Chapter for the Association of Energy Engineers. A native of Charlotte, he earned an MBA from UNC Charlotte and an electrical engineering degree from NC State University.

Keith has also won several awards including Green Project of the Year and Green Commercial Building Award from the Charlotte Business Journal.

Chantry Johnson, PE
Project Engineer, MSS Solutions

Chantry is a registered professional engineer with over 10 years of experience in the commercial construction business. He has worked in various aspects of the industry as a maintenance technician, field installer and integrator of control systems while completing his B.S in Mechanical Engineering at UNC-Charlotte. After completion of college in 2010 he went to work as a design engineer. His design experience includes new construction and renovation projects including Class A office spaces, industrial, data centers, food service, government, retail and healthcare. As a design engineer he has completed over 20 projects that have reached various levels of LEED accreditation. As a project engineer with MSS, Chantry has supported preconstruction efforts, designed new and retrofit projects and supported mechanical construction, service and controls.

He is a registered Professional Engineer in NC, SC, HI, and GA
